During the 10th European Week of Regions and Cities 2012 (Open Days), the European Commission organized a workshop entitled ”European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing: The Opportunity for regions”. The workshop focused on the role that innovation can play in dealing with the challenges of an ageing population. Innovation can improve the health and quality of life of our citizens and at the same time enhance the competitiveness of EU industry.

In this context Jo Vandeurzen, Flemish Minister of Welfare, Health and Family Affairs presented Flanders’ Care, a project that tackles the above-mentioned ageing issues through innovation and responsible entrepreneurship.

During the Kick off in Brussels in July lot of work was done and a lot of decisions were made among others about the study visits.

Minister Vandeurzen also emphasized the importance of international valorisation and cooperation. He also elaborated on the European CORAL network where regions collaborate to implement Active and Healthy Ageing and AAL solutions and services. During the presentation Minister Vandeurzen proudly presented the INTERREG IVC CASA project with his Ministry being the Lead Partner.”
